About Us

House of Blythe is a clothing and accessories fashion house based in New York, New York that embraces self expression through dramatic feminine silhouettes and whimsical novelty fabrics - designed inclusively for anyone who is not afraid to make a statement.

"My name is Kira Petersons, I am a 27-year-old aspiring designer from Kansas City currently living in New York City.  I have always had a wild and statement-driven fashion sense, one that coined me the nickname "glitter girl" from a young age.  I studied fashion at Oklahoma State University and moved to NYC in 2018 without a job the week after graduation to pursue a career in apparel design".

From 2018 to 2020, I worked as an Assistant Designer for a Nordstrom's dress brand in Manhattan's Garment District.  Much like the rest of my industry, I lost my job during the pandemic - however the extra time allowed me to rediscover my love for sewing and pattern making.  I started making dresses for myself to wear at home in Kansas since I had temporarily fled New York and left all my clothes behind.  I eventually started making matching face masks when I couldn't find any cute ones on the market - thus House of Blythe was born. "Blythe" being my Gram Gram and Pop Pop's last name and my middle name, meaning "happy" and "free spirited".

When I came back to New York I quickly worked on expanding the brand into my true passion: dresses.  The first piece in the collection "The Ziggy" is named after my Omi, Zigrida whose vintage lamé fabric inspired the silhouette.

Opposite of fast fashion in today's world, House of Blythe dresses are handmade in small-batch by a sample room in the Garment District that specializes in high-quality slow fashion.

We strive to be 100% waste free - all dress fabric scraps are used to scrunchies, and the excess unusable fabric scrap pieces and thread scraps are saved and taken to a local textile recycling facility.
